Tips for being more organised – from someone who is obsessed with organisation

There's a reason why being organised is considered one of the most important skills you can have – it makes everything else in life so much easier. From getting ready for work in the morning to completing a challenging project at work, organisation can be the key to success.

But for some people, being organised doesn't come naturally. If that sounds like you, don't worry – there are simple steps you can take to get more organised and make your life easier. You don’t have to be naturally organised to become a more organised person.

Why is organisation important in business?

It's certainly possible to run a business without systems and processes. Some small businesses do just fine with a "seat of your pants" mentality. But for most companies, being more organised can mean the difference between stagnation and growth.

In order to be successful, you need to be able to efficiently and effectively complete tasks. This means having a system for everything from handling customer inquiries to processing orders. And it means having a place for everything, so you can easily find what you need when you need it.

Is organisation a talent or a skill?

Why is this question important? If it's a talent, it's something you are born with and have a natural inclination for. But if it's a skill, it's something anyone can learn and improve.

While I believe that some people are more inclined to be organised and feel at ease when things are in order, I also believe there are things you can do to be more organised – even if it doesn't come naturally to you. So, whether you thrive on order or chaos, try these helpful tips to get your business in order.

Top tips for staying organised – even if it doesn't come naturally to you

1. Simplify your process

The first step to getting organised is to simplify your process. This means streamlining the way you do things so that there are fewer steps and less room for error. For example, if you're processing orders, create a system with as few steps as possible. Having too many steps will only make it more difficult.

2. Automate what you can

The second step is to automate what you can. This means using technology to help you stay organised. There are many ways to do this, from using a customer relationship management (CRM) system to setting up automatic billing. By automating as much as possible, you'll free up your time so you can focus on the tasks that need your attention, instead of the repetitive tasks that eat up your time.

3. Delegate and outsource

The third step is to delegate and outsource. This means finding someone else to help you with the tasks that you don't have time for or that you're not good at. For example, if you're not good at bookkeeping, hire an accountant. Or, if you're not good at customer service, hire a customer service representative. By delegating and outsourcing, you'll be able to focus on the tasks that are most important to you and your business.

4. Find a method that works for you

If you're always forgetting things or you have a hard time keeping track of what needs to be done, find an organisation method that works for you. This might mean using a planner or setting up reminders on your phone. The important thing is to find a system that works for you and that you're comfortable with.
