3 things you need to do to prepare your business for Christmas

As an entrepreneur the festive season can bring about dreaded questions of how to prepare for this busy time and how to ensure your business is ready for time off.

It’s important to start getting those important plans in place which is why we are sharing three things you need to do to prepare your business for Christmas.

Embrace the festive season

With December just around the corner this means it’s time to get festive and use this time to engage your audience. Regardless of the industry you are in you can incorporate Christmas promotions and events into your end-of-year plans. For product or service-based businesses a Christmas promotion or deal would be appropriate. Once you have an idea of the extent to which you want to include Christmas in your schedule it’s time to plan your social media posts. Christmas provides the perfect opportunity to be more engaging and connect with your audience on a deeper level. You could create a countdown or even a special online offer, to keep your audience engaged. It’s important that you think about this now so that you can be prepared and ready to launch.

Consider your expenses

Coming up to the end of the year and potentially even the temporary closure of your business it’s important to consider finances. Start by making a note of all upcoming expenses, taking into consideration unusual costs such as Christmas celebrations or staff bonuses. Monitor cash flow and make sure that you are financially secure and ready for the Christmas break. This avoids stress later in the month and ensures that everything is consistent going into the new year.

Set appropriate boundaries

Christmas is celebrated in many different ways and it’s up to each business to decide its plans for the festive season. As a business owner it is down to you to set expectations with clients and staff.

With clients this involves letting them know of any closures and making sure they know what to do in the case of an emergency if appropriate. If you are planning to close your business, consider having a cut-off for client work so that you can reduce delays. If you are continuing to operate, make sure staff are prepared, plans are put in place and you are ready for any additional delays or issues that could arise during the holidays.

The end of the year will inevitably be a busy time for all business owners, but if you’re left feeling as though you are being pulled in every direction it’s well worth considering outsourcing.
